Lindsay Youngdahl makes big impact on Minnesota high school with her innovative webmaster work

Webmaster of the Week: March 23-29

NAME:
Lindsay Youngdahl

SITE:
Blake Bears

POSITION:
Assistant Athletic Director/Webmaster

BACKGROUND:
The Blake School is a private, pre-kindergarten through 12th grade co-educational school with campuses in Hopkins, Minn., and Minneapolis. Blake, a traditional state powerhouse in several sports, is known for encouraging its students to participate in multiple activities, and Youngdahl played soccer, basketball and softball for the Bears before graduating in 1998. She played varsity soccer at Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) College, where she earned a degree in Communication Studies. Youngdahl worked as the director of recreation for a church in Houston before returning to Blake as the school’s Sports Information Director in 2007. She has served as assistant girls’ varsity soccer coach since 2010 (she was the junior varsity coach for four years previously). Youndahl was named Blake’s assistant athletic director in 2011.

WHAT SHE DOES:
Coaching soccer and serving as webmaster are just two of many duties for Youngdahl, who helps with the hiring and management of the Blake’s coaches and does all the scheduling for all of the school’s athletics fields. She says working on the school’s new athletics website (it launched on the Sport Ngin platform last fall) is, “my favorite part of the job.” Her passion is stamped all over the site, from the array of timely news articles she produces, the custom graphics she creates and popular social media accounts she manages. Youngdahl said she intends to build out a history section on the site that pays homage to the school’s many former standout athletes and coaches.

MAKING HER MARK:
Youngdahl, who isn’t afraid to experiment with third-party applications (she builds some of her graphics using Canva), created a Social Media Hub using a TwineSocial widget.
